Baked ShankarPale

Recipe Source -

My Modifications -
1. Instead of all purpose flour/maida, I used whole wheat pastry flour.
2. Instead of ghee/clarified butter, I used canola oil - & that too less than as mentioned in the recipe!
3. I use shankarpale cutter for that serrated shape.
4. I did not use powdered fennel seeds.

Verdict -
1. These shankarpale tasted like crunchy biscuits/cookies. They tasted good of their own. However, if you are looking for melt-in-your-mouth fluffy shankarpale which need to be deep fried, these are not the exact replacement. This could be due to the fact that I did not use ghee and used 4 tbsp canola oil instead of 1/2 cup of required fat. Using half a cup ghee may yield better results. I prefer this low cal version.

2. I am planning to make salty shankarpale - khari shankarpale (without sugar with jeera and black pepper powder), spicy shankarpale - teekhat shankar pale (with chili powder) & cheesy shankarpale (adding grated cheese).
