Poora Machh - Grilled fish from Tripura

I clicked on the state of Tripura here and found this recipe. Since we love seafood, I served this grilled fish with salad for dinner. I used Tilapia instead of Sole. I really had a hard time taking this picture so please bear with me.

Hi Meera,

Nice to find out a recipe from Tripura. We were lived in Tripura for 3 years from 1996 -1999. They used to follow Bengali recipes, mainly fish and meat varieties. Famous rice used for making '' pulao''is '' khasa chaval.''Fish patori''is famous for all functions. ( marinated fish wrapped in banana leaves and fry ) . Some community of Tripura make chicken with handful of minced garlic, ginger, green chillies and salt. No other masalas. Taste's yummy !!!! Pita is a sweet dish. Grated Coconut - Khoya stuffed in rice- maida pan cake. They'll make rice with fish head. ( muri ganto ).Main fish used for cooking- Hilsa, rohu & Katla , all're sweet water fish.

Thanks Meera...

We like tilapia. Fillets are readily avilable here. i prefer it more as grilled than curries.

That's so cool. I have never been to North-East India. Thanks so much for sharing the recipes from Tripura. Fish in banana leaves reminded me of Parsi speciality - Patra ni machchi - I have it in draft.
