Khari Biscuits
Ingredients
1 Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry Sheet box
Toppings (Optional)
sugar or
cumin seeds or
ajwain or
crushed black pepper or
chaat masala
Method
1. Thaw one puff pastry sheet in the refrigerator before actually baking it.
2. Cut it.
3. Pre-heat Oven to 400 F
4. Bake for 15 - 20 minutes
5. Cool on the cooling rack. 6. Store in an airtight container.
7. Enjoy with a cup of hot tea!
Note -
1. I noticed that when I baked the biscuits for 15 minutes, they were slightly undercooked. When I baked them for 20 minutes, they were perfect in taste but they were one shade darker. So next time, I got the desired result with 17 minute of baking time. The pictures shown above are 20 minutes one!:-)
2. If you want to use only one puff pastry sheet, thaw only one, and freeze the second one immediately because thawing, freezing, thawing is not recommended.
3. You can sprinkle some toppings like ajwain, sugar, cumin seeds, crushed black pepper on top before baking. However, I prefer my khari biscuits plain.

One suggestion, I too use this pasty sheet for making veg puffs, khari and twisted type too
You have rightly cut sheet into three parts. You need to roll each of these sheets, a little thiner and then cut or vice versa. For the twisted version after you have rolled just turn from center and spread on sheet.
You will see them really puff up, like the onces in Mumbai bakeries.
Meera, thanks to you n Roopa for shortcut to KB! Moreso, thks to you for the stepwise pic, (I had messed up my last puff pastry by thawing n freezing...once thawed it can't b frozen again..lesson learnt)also i didn't follow how to spread the sheet..hence very.v.v.v. useful to me! yum wt tea, they truly look good!
17 mins..then!:D
this is so simple! now if only such goodies were available in india!
Now, how cool and simple is that. A sure winner for people like me who look for shortcuts ;)...
My dear friend:
Sorry for the displaying "error". I really do not know why!
Thanks so much for the tip for the twisted type. I will try that next time. It will look so cool with those bow like twists.
Purnima:
I was hesitant to post it thinking who will want to know. but thanks for making me feel good.
nags:
Hey, don't forget you actually get fresh khari biscuits there. :-)
Maya:
I know what you mean! I too love quick cooking.
Hi Meera,
tried to comment yesterday too, but comp was hanging up. Loved the idea. Just made chicken puffs lastw eekk with puff pastry, this is next.
Thanks for this brilliant idea. Before you read further, please remember I haven't done any baking before.
I tried this today 400F, 18mins and it was burned. Then I tried 400F 13mins, it was slightly uncooked. Now I am going to try 400F 15mins, lets see how that works. Does it make a difference if I put it on bottom rack or top rack ? I placed it on bottom rack.
Thanks a lot once again.
Vimmi:
Do try and let me know.

I am sorry that it got burnt/undercooked. Well, I wonder what the problem could be? I kept on the top shelf. I will keep thinking and let you know if i come up with any idea. I guess only thing I can come up with is bake for 15 minutes and after that keep checking every minute. That's how actually I got my 17 minutes and I believed it is perfect. I am sorry it didn;t work for you. Just few other thoughts - I am sure you may have taken these into account, the baking tray should not be over-crowded so the biscuits have some room to expand.
Hey Meera, I tried these today and they came out great. I added ajwain as topping as you said in your note. Thanx for the great idea :)..

Meena:
I do not know much about other brands. I read in Nupur's post about Trader Joe's version which is healthier. But I do not have TJ in my city. I also saw puffed pastry sheet at our local Indian stores with some different brand.
Laxmisri:
Thanks.
Arati:
I am not sure if you mean keeping just Al foil in the oven? You can wrap al foil around the baking/cookie sheet if you like. I have never done it with just Al foil - if that' what u meant. Sorry, I know I am not being too helpful. but really do not know.
Amolsledge:
Thanks. Hope you try & enjoy.
These biscuits are crispy and crunchy. And goes perfectly with evening tea. Can I have alllll of them!
